Interstitial Cystitis/
Painful Bladder Syndrome

Interstitial Cystitis (IC) or Painful Bladder Syndrome (PBS) can be one of the most severe/debilitating urinary conditions in existence. Once thought to be a more rare disease, research now shows that up to a range of 2- 17% of the population meets diagnostic criteria and this number is believed to be increasing. PBS/IC can completely disrupt patients' lives. These patients often have severe pain in the bladder/pelvic area with bladder filling/emptying, a constant urge to urinate, and can go to the bathroom as often as every 15-30 min during the day and 3+ times per night. There is no exact known cause of IC, and it can be developed at any age.

Per the Interstitial Cystitis Association, “Pelvic floor physical therapy is among the most-studied and most-proven treatments for interstitial cystitis - in fact, it's suggested as a first-line medical treatment by the American Urological Association, and is the only treatment given an evidence grade of 'A'.” Through a combination of hands-on therapy to address the irritated tissues around the bladder, downtraining exercise, and working with patients on lifestyle/behavioral/dietary, and self management options for relief; PT can be one of the most successful interventions there is for IC/PBS. If this is you, call us today so you can start to experience relief.
