Hemorrhoids

Hemorrhoids are defined as swollen or inflamed veins in the rectum or anus that cause discomfort and bleeding.  Hemorrhoids are often caused by pregnancy or straining to have a bowel movement.

Treatment of the pelvic floor can help relieve or eliminate hemorrhoid pain. Depending on what we determine in the evaluation, physical therapy may focus on many different aspects to relieve hemorrhoid and sphincter pain including: pelvic floor strength, core control, ability to relax your pelvic floor and sphincter for appropriate evacuation, improve stool consistency, toileting strategies to relieve pressure on pelvic floor/hemorrhoids, activities to avoid, strategies for movements to reduce pelvic pressure, dietary considerations and how to exercise safely.
