Urinary Incontinence

Urinary Incontinence is the accidental or involuntary leaking of urine (even a few drops!) that can occur with cough, laugh, sneeze, movement, activity, urgency, or even at random. Research indicates that urinary incontinence affects over 60% of adult women, over 10% of men, and  up to 20% of children above the age of 5. Especially in women, leakage is so common that is if often normalized as just a part of life. This is not the case at all.

Incontinence is also often associated with weak muscles, and patients are often told to “just do Kegels.” In reality, NO leakage is normal, and incontinence can be caused by a variety of physical and lifestyle factors where strength of the pelvic floor may or may not be the issue, and in some situations Kegels may even make your problem worse.

We recommend an individualized evaluation with one of our therapists to assess not only your pelvic floor function, but the function of the entire core surrounding the bladder, in addition to lifestyle, activities, and behaviors in your day to day life that may be causing your symptoms. This way we can treat your specific problems so that your incontinence can be resolved and you can return to life leak free!
